Frequently Asked Questions
how do I order?
Start out by inquiring here. The more details, the better! Please note that an inquiry is not considered an order until details are finalized and deposit is received. Because I am a one woman show, the amount of orders taken each week is limited to ensure the utmost care is put into each cake. Most clients reach out at least 2 weeks in advance for celebration cakes and 6 months to 1 year in advance for wedding cakes. However, I strongly encourage you to reach out as soon as possible to ensure availability. If it's a rush order, I'm always happy to accommodate if possible.
what is the price?
Each cake is priced on an individual basis and is dependent on design complexity. In general, buttercream cakes start at $7.00 for a simple buttercream decorations and fondant cakes start at $8.50 per serving for simple decorations. Typically, cakes in the past have ranged from $6.50 to $15 per serving. To request a quote, please fill out the form here with as much detail as possible.
what can i expect after my inquiry?
I will respond to your inquiry via e-mail and may ask you some follow-up questions if necessary to make sure I have a good understanding of your vision. If you're not exactly sure what you want, that's okay too! I'm happy to work with you on brainstorming ideas. To place an order, a non-refundable 50% deposit is required upon booking.
how does payment work?
For celebration cakes, the remaining balance is due one week prior to the event. For wedding cakes, the remaining balance is due 1 month prior to the wedding date. For wedding cakes booked less than one month before the date, the full amount is due to secure your order. For celebration cakes booked less than 2 weeks before the date, the full amount is due to secure your order. If the full payment is not received in a timely manner, Silver Whisk Bake Shop, LLC may cancel your order.
do you offer vegan, nut/dairy/soy-free, or gluten-free cakes?
Yes! Check out the cake menu here. I take allergies VERY seriously and you should inform me if someone in your party has an allergy. Although I thoroughly clean and sanitize equipment and tools after every use, they have all at one point been in contact with tree nuts, peanuts, dairy, soy, and wheat. If you or someone in your party has an allergy, I will put immense care into preparing your order but I cannot guarantee that there has not been cross-contamination.
what is your cancellation and refund policy?
Because of a full schedule and attention to detail, I spend many hours planning and preparing before even beginning on a cake. If your event date has been rescheduled, please contact me as soon as possible. If I am booked on the rescheduled date, I am happy to provide a refund for the amount of work that has not been completed. All non-refundable deposits are final and no refunds are given under any circumstance if your cake has been completed.
my event is outside. Will the cake be safe outside?
Any cake placed outside during an event has the possibility of melting or deforming due to heat and humidity. If you have an outside wedding or celebration, I am happy to discuss with you your options of where you can display the cake. Buttercream reacts the same way as butter does; it melts under heat, it is the perfect texture at room temperature, and gets firm when cold. Therefore, it is necessary to keep your cake away from heat and humidity to avoid disappointment. I am not liable for a cake once it has been delivered or picked up.
how do I pick up? do you offer delivery?
Silver Whisk Bake Shop is an online-based bakery located in the surrounding Boston area and orders are made in a facility that is unfortunately not open to the public. Pick-up locations will be arranged on a per-person basis after your order is confirmed. 1-tier and 2-tier cakes are available for pick-up while 3+ tiers require delivery. Cakes are very heavy and should be professionally delivered so that your cake arrives safely in one piece. Delivery service is available for all sized cakes. The delivery price is determined on an individual basis and depends on the location of the event and if set-up is necessary.
how do I transport and store my cake?
Cakes travel best on flat surfaces in air conditioned or room temperature vehicles (think trunk of your car, the floor of the car in the back, or the passenger seat pushed back and put on the ground of the passenger seat). During the summer, this is especially important because buttercream reacts the same way as butter does- it's the perfect texture at room temperature, firm and unpleasant if eaten cold, and it may melt or deform if it's too hot and/or humid. For leftovers, the best way to keep the cake fresh is to put plastic wrap over the cut parts of the cake and to place it in an airtight container or back into the cake box and into the refrigerator. When you're ready to eat a slice (or two), cut the amount you want and leave it out at room temperature to let the buttercream soften up. For individual slices, it usually takes about 20 minutes. Cupcakes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days (nothing beats cupcakes on the first day though!). For cupcakes, take the amount you want out of the container from the refrigerator and leave it out at room temperature to let the buttercream soften up a bit (about 20 minutes).
